Collective Grave Russian Senior Officers

This grave contains the remains of the Soviet/Latvian Major General Jan Vogel and the Soviet Colonel Paul Petrov. Major General Vogel participated in the liberation of Belarussia and was mortally wounded during the fighting for Navahrudak on 8 July 1944. Colonel Petrov was wounded during the fighting for the Polish city of Białystok as deputy commander of his division in July 1944 and died due to his wounds on 27 August 1944. Both were posthumously awarded the 'Hero of the Soviet Union' title.
