Stumbling Stones Kartäuserwall 7

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Helmuth Kaufmann (born 1926, murdered in Chelmno in 1944)
Ludwig Kaufmann (born 1927, murdered in Lodz on 22-4-1943)
Max Kaufmann (born 1887, murdered in Lodz)
Ruth Kaufmann (born 1921, murdered in Lodz)
Theodora Kaufmann (born 1894, murdered in Lodz on 18-6-1943)
Ernst Schloss (born 1890, faith unknown)
Albert Schnock (born 1883, faith unknown)
Max Schnock (born 1913, murdered in Stutthof on 31-1-1945)
Regina Schnock (born 1883, murdered in Riga)

The small copper plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were murdered by the National-Socialists, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
