Stumbling Stones Limitenstraße 40

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Hans Frenkel (born 1922, murdered in Buchenwald)
Julie Frenkel (born 1886, murdered in Auschwitz)
Julius Frenkel (born 1880, murdered in Riga on 16-6-1942)
Renate Kaufmann (born 1915, murdered in Auschwitz)
Hermann Kaufmann (born 1878, murdered in Sobibor)
Sofie Kaufmann (born 1889, murdered in Sobibor)
Julius Levy (born 1885, murdered in Riga)
Martha Levy (born 1888, murdered in Stutthof in 1944)
Albert Rosenberg (born 1868, murdered in Theresienstadt on 5-2-1944)
Fanny Rosenberg (born 1866, murdered in Theresienstadt on 17-6-1944)
Rosa Rosenberg (born 1874, murdered in Theresienstadt on 31-10-1942)

The small copper plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
