Commonwealth War Grave Terre-Natale

Private James Downey, Special Air Service Regiment A.A.C., 2940028,
11-09-1944, age 24.

James Downey participated in "Operation Wallace" led by Major Roy Farran.
This operation was done by 60 British soldiers, aided by the French Resistance.
Target was to disturb the Germans, which was done by sabotage (steal and destroy fuel, damage communication lines, disturbing troop movements).
500 Germans were killed, 95 vehicles destroyed and a train loaded with fuel was blown up.
