German War Cemetery Toila

This war cemetery was created by the German army in 1944 for the casualties of the Narwa-front. After the war, the terrain was used as a training-area for the Soviet-army. In 1999 the cemetery was made visible again and it is now a part of the Oru-parc. There are 2,132 graves of German soldiers.

The German war cemetery Toila contains the grave of the Estonian Hauptsturmführer Oskar Ruut. He served in the famous Narva batallion and 20.Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (estnische Nr.1). He destroyed 5 Soviet tanks from 1 to 3 August 1944. Ruut fell on 3 August after he was drove over by a Soviet tank.
