Stumbling Stones Stephanienstraße 2

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Philipp Lieblich (born 1875, murdered in Gurs)
Liesel Rosenthal (born 1905, survived Gurs)
Theodor Rosenthal (born 1903, survived Gurs)
Evelyne Rosenthal (born 1941, survived Gurs)
Dorothea Eberhardt (born 1889, murdered in Gurs on 18-1-1941)
Gertrud Herbst (born 1902, murdered in Auschwitz in 1942)
Irma Schloss (born 1901, murdered in Auschwitz in 1942)
Arthur Ullmann (born 1915, murdered in Auschwitz in 1942)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
