On the Lutheran Cemetery in Nieuwe Pekela lies the war grave of:

Kristiaan Eiso Kuiper, carpenter and forced labor
Born 23-02-1921 in Nieuwe Pekela
Deceased 18-04-1941 Wilhelmshaven Germany

There is also the grave of H. Kanning, with a plaque of his railway colleagues from Zeeland. He was killed in action on July 22, 1942 while on duty.
