Stumbling Stones Markt 1

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Karl Steinmann (born 1898, murdered in Minsk in 1942)
Manfred Steinmann (born 1928, murdered in Sobibor on 17-9-1943)
Kurt Steinmann (born 1924, murdered in Sobibor on 17-9-1943)
Hannelore Steinmann (born 1936, murdered in Minsk in 1942)
Rosalie Steinmann (born 1899, murdered in Minsk in 1942)
Julius Steinmann (born 1890, murdered in Sobibor on 21-5-1943)
Henriette Steinmann (born 1904, murdered in Sobibor on 17-9-1943)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
