The memorial is one of five memorials erected in France and Belgium by the Newfoundland government following the First World War.
This memorial honours the courage and sacrifice of the Newfoundland Regiment which fought in this area in the First World War.
Three commemorative plaques contains the names of over 800 members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve and the Newfoundland Mercantile Marine, who have no known grave.
