Commonwealth War Cemetery Delville Wood

There are 5523 Commonwealth soldiers of the First World War are buried on this cemetery.

Of the 5523 dead, 3593 could no longer be identified. This makes it the third largest cemetery in the Somme department. Virtually all the soldiers buried here fell during the Battle of the Somme in the period July-September 1916. The high number of unidentified graves can be explained by the long period between the deaths and the clearance of the bodies from the battlefield to the cemetery .
