Memorial Resistance Fighters America

The monument to the resistance in America is located at the Griendtveenseweg. It is a memorial wall with two plaques.

The text on the left plaque reads:
'They gave their lives
for our freedom

J.G. Poels
Past. H.J. Vullinghs
M.A.H. Bouman
N.C. V. Oosterhout
C.K. Noordermeer
L. A. Lansdorp
H.G. Driessen
J.M. Starren
G.W. Ahout. "[/ i]

On the right plaque is the following:
‘Fallen
for God and fatherland
on Sept. 5. 1944
Frits de Bruijn 4 oct. 1920
Mart van den Eijnde Feb. 4. 1917. '[/ I]

Frits de Bruijn and Mart van den Eijnden were killed by the Germans at the site of the monument on September 5, 1944 in gruesome ways after they were caught in attempts to sabotage the adjacent railway.

During the war the area around the monuments was a good place for hiding members of the resistance and allied pilots. They stayed for a time at various farms and civilian families in the area.
Via the nearby rail much war material was transported to and from Germany by the Germans.
