Memorial Carl Johan Bruhn Torpeskoven

This memorial, in Torpeskoven, remembers the Danish captain and SOE-agent Carl Johan Bruhn.

In the early '30s, Bruhn moved to the UK for his studies. When the Germans invaded Denmark in 1940, Bruhn convinced himself to fight against the Germans. Quickly he decided to become member of the Special Operations Executive. In 1941, plans were made to set up contact with the Danish resistance. It was a task for Carl Johan Bruhn, concluded the commanders of the SOE.

On 27 December 1941 the operation began with the bombing of random targets to mask the real intention of the operation. Near the wood of Torpeskoven, Bruhn and his companion Mogens Hammer jumped out of the plane. Mogens safely landed but Bruhn's parachute wouldn't open. He died near the spot of the memorial and is buried in the Danish city of Solbjerg.
