Grave Aage Thomas Mariegaard

Aage Thomas Mariegaard was born on 21 October 1922 in Jerslev. During the Second World War, he joined the Germans in the Danish 'Frikorps'. This corps fought in Russia just as Mariegaard. In January he suffered from diphteria and left the front.

After a few months recuperation and after determination of a heart disease he returned to his fatherland Denmark. But he could not fight on the front.

Meanwhile, the Danish Frikorps was transformed to the 'Schalburgkorps'. Mariegaard became Unterscharführer in this corps. In the same year he joined the Petergruppen, a sabotage group against the resistance. This group was guilty for the murder of more than 100 Danish.

After the war he fled to Germany. In the hope of being safe, he was caught by British troops and narrated to Denmark. On 14 April 1947 he was sentenced death for the killing of 10 Danish and the execution of 32 sabotage actions. The execution took place in the early hours of 9 Mai 1947 in the Bådsmandsstræde Kazerne of Copenhagen. He's been buried on Jerslev Sogn Cemetery.
