Angel Island

Angel Island is an island in the San Francisco Bay. The island was in possession of the army and was named "Fort McDowell". During both the First and the Second World War the island was used as embarkation and return location for U.S. troops. The Island also served in World War II as a prisoner of war camp for German and Japanese POWs. Until 1962 there was a Nike missile base.

The island is now a State Park and a California Historical Landmark. It can be visited.
