Matsue Gokoku Shrine

This shrine was the place where a large group of armed students met before they attacked several sites within Matsue city on 24 August 1945. The 'Matsue incident' was their answer on the Japanese surrender. They were armed with four sticks of dynamiet, 18 guns and two katana swords.

During the attack, one person was killed and there was a substantial damage inflicted to the city. Fifteen persons were prosecuted for the attack. Isao Okazaki, the leader of the insurgents, was sentenced to life. Others were sentenced to 2-12 years.
