War Memorial Reims

The war memorial was erected in memory of the city's victims who died in the First World War.
"For the children of Reims who fell on the field of honor, the monument forever expresses his mourning and pride."

The monument was designed by the architect Henri Royer with the collaboration of the French sculptor Paul Lefebvre from Reims.
In the central part there is a free-standing bronze figure – clearly inspired by Rodin's "The Thinker". It depicts the "Thought of Resurrection".

Two flanking relief groups frame the central image.
Links "1914 - To the families of the dead to glorify the greatness of their sacrifice".
Right "1918 - To new generations, so that they may know and remember", intended for future generations to know the sacrifice of their parents.

The monument was inaugurated on June 1, 1930 by the Minister of War André Maginot, in the presence of Marshal Pétain, Paul Marchandeau, Mayor-MP of Reims and the Archbishop Cardinal Luçon.
