Solway Aviation Museum

The display of artefacts and memorabilia has a strong local flavour and a wander through the exhibit rooms of the museum rewards the visitor with a fascinating insight into local aviation history.

The early days of flight in the county are recounted through photo's and artefacts donated by local people many of whom volunteered for service in the RAF.

Atmospheric recreations of life at RAF Crosby-on-Eden led the visitor through the 1940's and ultimately into the age of rocketry with a display room dedicated to the Blue Streak rocket programme at RAF Spadeadam.

The engine hall has a superb display of expertly restored aircraft engines, illustrating the development of powered flight from simple air cooled engines to the more modern jet engines.
