Fort de Bessoncourt

This French fort was built from 1883 to 1886 and was fully operational during the First World War, when it served as military hospital "Work 17". During that period, an underground system was dug underneath the fort.

The fort was captured by the German army in June 1940 and shortly served as temporary amunition storage site. Its armoured turrets and other weaponry were removed during the German occupation.
