Villa Winter Fuerteventura-Cofete

About the Villa Winter Fuertaventura at Cofete and the designer/builder of the villa, Gustav Winter, a number of stories circle around the globe. The villa was supposedly built from 1937 by the German engineer Gustav Winter. This man was supposed to have also been Oberst (Colonel) in the German Army, a Nazi spy and a confidential of Adolf Hitler. The villa would have been built and possibly used for secret military activities and there would have been a supply station for German submarines.

Of the many speculations about the building and its designer up till now no evidence was found and proof was given. Research by relatives of Gustav Winter however cleared many of the speculations. Gustav Winter left Germany in 1913 and was during the Second World War living in Spain. Building of the villa started in the late 1930's, early 1940's and was stopped for reasons of lack of supplies in 1942. At that moment only the fundations were laid. Not before 1946, Gustav Winter was able to start completing the villa. Therefore the building was erected after the Second World War. Although Gustav Winter formally was a German citizen, there is no evidence presented that he was a spy. Also there is no evidence he held a military rank. There even is no military record of him beceause he never was in the military.
