This memorial, at the Petersberg-citadel, commemorates the victims of the German military justice in Second World War. These were the soldiers who deserted from the German Wehrmacht and therefore resisted the Nazi-regime.

About 100,000 soldiers deserted, 30,000 of them stood trial and were sentenced to death. About 20,000 deserters were executed.
