Memorial former RAF Airfield Lasham

This memorial is located at the entrance of former RAF Airfield Lasham.

The test on the top plaque is:

R.A.F. LASHAM
1942-1948

On April 1944, six Mosquitos of 613 Squadron (based at this airfield) led by W/Cdr Bateson succeeded in a very daring raid on the Gestapo Central Records Registry in The Haque. Releasing the bombs at 50ft, the incendiaries went through the doors and windows, destroying most of the records, with few casualties to the nearby civilian population. The buildings on either side were left standing.

The text on the lower plaque is:
NEVER FORGOTTEN
DEDICATED TO
THE MEN AND WOMEN
WHO FLEW OR OPERATED
FROM THIS AIRFIELD
