Winter War Monument Suomussalmi

This memorial commemorates the victims of the Winter War (30.11.1939-13.3.1940). There are more then 20.000 natural stones placed around the central memorial. Each nature stone presents a dead Finnish or Russian soldier.

The text on the central memorial reads:
"Vaika Ihminen Kuolee - Nin Muisto Elaa."

This can be translated as:
"Even though people die, memory still remains"
