Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery

The National Cemeteries in the U.S.A. are used for war graves, graves of U.S. military personnel, veterans and their spouses but not exclusively so. There are also special state veteran cemeteries.

In 2008, there were in total 172,254 graves on this cemetery.

On the cemetery are also the graves of 2 German and 5 Italian POW's from the Second World War.

This National Cemetery holds the graves of many American war casualties. This cemetery contains the remains of 175 unknown soldiers of the 56th United States Colored Infantry. They died of Cholera in August 1866.

Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery also contains the graves of the following people, who fought for the United States of America and who gave their lives in the War in Afghanistan and/or Operation Enduring Freedom:
