This memorial is dedicated to 9 American crew members who were killed in the crash on August 1, 1943 with their B-17 Flying Fortress near this spot.

The text on the memorial reads:
ON AUGUST 1, 1943 A FOUR MOTORED ARMY AIR FORCE PLANE CRASHED 500 FT. WEST OF HERE. IN COMMEMORATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THIS FLIGHT CREW THAT PERISHED IN THE LINE OF DUTY.
