War Memorial Chinley, Bugsworth and Brownside

This memorial commemorates the residents of Chinley, Bugsworth and Brownside who were killed or missing in the First World War (14 names, 262 returned) and the Second World War (22 names).

This memorial contains inaccuracies in that there are a number of men who are not shown as casualties but in fact were. For example, Alfred Arnold Simpson is not shown as a casualty but, as a Lance Corporal in the 1/6th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment) he died of wounds on the 12th March 1916, aged 21 and is buried in Aubigny-en-Artois Communal Cemetery Extension.
