Memorial Execution Franciscans

On this location along the N-401, north of Fuente el Fresno, Victor Chumillas and 19 other Franciscans were murdered by the Republicans, on 16 August 1936.

From 1936 to 1939, 6832 members of the Catholic clergy were excecuted without trial, sometimed after they were tortured, by Republicans because of their faith and monasteries and churches were destroyed. It is referred to as Spain's Red Terror, in which also tens of thousands of other people were murdered.
