Castle Schwanenburg Kleve

During the Second World War, Castle Schanenburg on 7 october 1944 severely damaged by an Allied air raid.

On the 7th of October 1944 a Halifax III of the 51st Squadron of Great Britain grazed the tower of the Schwanenburg and exploded. The aircraft was fully loaded and caused a lot of damage on the Schwanenburg and surrounding area.

The aircraft in question and its crew:
51 Squadron, Halifax III NP933 MH-M, FO C.T. COLLYER, Sgt J. GARTLAND, F/O A.G. BRANDON, Sgt W. POLLITT, Sgt E.P.A. STANSFIELD, Sgt L.A POPLE and P/O D.T. DELANEY. T/O.

Buried in Reichswald, apart Delaney who was captured.
