Air-raid Shelter Refugi Nr. 307

Refugi 307 in the Poble Sec district is one of 1,400 shelters built during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) in Barcelona that was heavily bombed. No distinction was made here between military or civilian targets.

These shelters and tunnels were built by both the local government and the civilian population and many of them still exist today. Only a few can be visited, including this shelter number 307, or Refugi 307.

There were three entrances in Refugi 307 and the tunnels had a height of about 2 metres and a width of between 1.5 and 2 metres. They were partly carved out of the adjoining rocks of Montjuïc mountain and in the basement were various facilities such as toilets and an infirmary.
