Osaka Army Arsenal

This former arsenal was established during the Meiji government to support the rapidly growing Japanese arms industry. Osaka Castle became part of this complex. The arsenal was bombed by the Allies during World War II, with the result that 90% of the complex was destroyed and 382 people lost their lives. The castle was restored after the war and traces of the aerial bombardments can still be seen in various places. The castle tower is a replica.
