Crest HMS Gloucester (D96)

This crest of the HMS Gloucester (D96) is carved from a piece of timber from Gloucester Cathedral and carried on the ship throughout its career. The HMS Gloucester fought in the Gulf War.
HMS Gloucester was a Batch 3 Type 42 destroyer. She was built in Southampton and launched on 2nd November 1982 by the Duchess of Gloucester. During the Gulf War she destroyed an Iraqi Silkworm missile that was threatening the US battleship Missouri with her Sea Dart Missiles.
She was decommissioned on 22 September 2015.
The White Ensign flying above the Ships Crest was presented to the Cathedral on the ships safe return from the Gulf War
