The National Museum Royal Navy, in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard, is one of the oldest maritime museums. The Museums mission is to preserve and present the history of the Fleet - the ships and the men and women who manned them.
A special item in the collection is the ship's bell from the battleship HMS Hood. The Hood, which was the pride of the British fleet, was sunk by the German Bismarck in May 1941. The sinking of the Hood was not only the largest loss of a ship in terms of size, but also the greatest loss of life for the British navy in history.
In 2015, divers recovered the ship's bell, which is now on display in the museum.
