The Alderney Society Museum, located in the historic Old School House in St Anne, is the island’s central hub for heritage and history. Founded in 1966 and run by volunteers from the Alderney Society, the museum holds over 18,000 artifacts spanning from prehistoric times to the 20th century. Its five galleries explore natural history, maritime heritage, wartime experiences, and local culture.
Highlights include relics from an Elizabethan shipwreck, documents from the German occupation during World War II, and plans for the Victorian Alderney Breakwater. The museum also serves as the island’s archive, preserving genealogical records, maps, and oral histories. Open seasonally from April to October, it offers rotating exhibitions, a bookshop, and membership benefits.
