Mass Graves Eilenburg

The Ostfriedhof of Eilenburg contains three mass graves from the Second World War in a row. The book-shaped memorial has the following to say about these mass graves:

Mass grave 1
19 civilians, who died due to a Bluckbuster bombardment on Eilenburg (11.07.1944), are resting in this mass grave.

Mass grave 2
39 German soldiers, who died due to an exploded munition wagon on 29.03.1945 are buried in this mass grave. They belonged to the Sanitätsersatz- und Ausbildungsabteilung 4 and the Sanitätsersatzabteilung 8.

Mass grave 3
This mass grave contains the remains of 86 civilians and refugees, who fell during heavy fighting for Eilenburg between 18 and 24 April 1945.

In total, 144 war victims are buried in these mass graves.
