Memorial Cairn HMAS Sydney

This memorial commemorates the battle between the Royal Australian Navy cruiser HMAS Sydney and the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran, on 19 November 1941. None of the Sydney's complement of 645 men survived. This was the most grievous loss suffered by the Royal Australian Navy. The Kormoran was also sunk in the action.
