War Memorial Matakana

Matakana War Memorial - dedicated to the Men of this District who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Matakana War Memorial is located at the entrance to Matakana Village, a small rural village in Northland, New Zealand.
-994 Matakana Road, Matakana, North Auckland, New Zealand.
The Memorial, unveiled in December 1919, comprises a large plinth
of Oamaru stone upon which sits a status of King George V, the reigning English monarch in 1919. Sculptured by William Henry Feldon, King George is dressed in full military regalia, standing at ‘Attention’ in salute of the Men who lost their lives fighting for King and Country during the first and second World Wars.

Unfortunately for over 75 years the Memorial has been subject to a continual array of abuse, from defacing of the plinth to several beheadings of the statue. This Facebook page is our way of halting the years of desecration and returning the mana and reverence that it deserves.
A simple way YOU CAN HELP is to increase the community awareness though sharing this page and/or stopping to lay flowers such as Poppies or Rosemary on special days such as ANZAC Day, Armistice Day, Birthday's, Christmas, New Year etc.

Talk to people about the Memorial and the Men who sacrificed their lives, involve the community. Give meaning and make connections.
