The police Constables Fred Gosling and Bertram Peart, who gave their lives on 28 November 1899 in the South-African War (2nd Boer War). It also commemorates the men of the Hallamshire Volunteer Battalion, The York & Lancaster Regiment, who gave their lives in the South-African War (2nd Boer War).
