Alton National Cemetery

The National Cemeteries in the U.S.A. are used for graves of war dead, graves of U.S. military personnel, veterans and their spouses but not exclusively so. There are also special state veteran cemeteries.

Alton National Cemetery, a part of the Alton City Cemetery, was opened in 1870. In 2005, there were in total 522 graves on this cemetery.

American Civil War: 175 (163 Union soldiers, 12 unknowns)
WW2: 4
Korea War: 9
