Reconstructed North Gate of Camp Sumter

Camp Sumter (also known as Andersonville Prison) was a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp for Union soldiers. Of the approximately 45,000 Union prisoners held at Camp Sumter during the war, nearly 13,000 died.
The former camp is now a part of the Andersonville National Historic Site.
