Richard Rowland Kirkland Monument

This memorial in the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park commemorates the Confederate soldier Richard Rowland Kirkland (August 1843 – 20 September 1863) who, during the Battle of Fredericksburg, risked enemy fire to bring water to the wounded Union soldiers who were lying in front of his stronghold. By this action he was known as "The Angel of Marye's Heights".
