Fort Myles Standish

This fort was built in 1900 on Lovell's Island as part of the coastal defence of Boston. During the Second World War, it was a staging area for troops departing to or from Europe. At first the troops lived in tents, later wooden barracks were built. More than 1,4 million soldiers were processed through the fort during the war.
