Museumship USS Silversides (SS-236)

The submarine USS Silversides (SS-236) is the most important attaction of the Great Lakes Naval Memorial & Museum.

The USS Silversides, a submarine of the Gato-class, was commissioned on 15 December 1941. She was one of the most succesfull American submarines in the Second World War, with 23 sunken and 14 damaged ships.

The museum contains also an other museumship, the USCGC McLane. She was commissioned in 1927. In the Second World War, she sank a Japanese submarine in the Beringsea.
