Deutsches Kreuz in Gold and Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes recipient Georg Briel served with the Flak-Bataillon 606. Formally the was formed on January 20th, 1940 as a Heerestruppe on the Wester front. Later the unit was send to Northern Africa and was detroyed in May 1943. Georg Briel himself transferred form the Police to the German Army in 1935. After his service in Northern Africa he returned to the Western Front and commanded the Grenadier-Regiment 57.
