Pahlawan Nasional Indonesia

The title National Hero of Indonesia (Indonesian: Indonesian National Hero) is an honor awarded by decree and posthumously by the President of Indonesia.

The legal framework for the title, initially called Hero of National Independence, was established by President Sukarno by Presidential Decree No. 241 in 1958 and first awarded on August 30, 1959.

New Heroes are now declared around National Hero Day on 10 November.

The award is given for actions that are either heroic - as "current acts that can be remembered forever and exemplified by other citizens" - or for "extraordinary services to the country and the people". The Ministry of Social Affairs specifies the following seven individual criteria that must be met:
- An Indonesian citizen who has died and, in his or her life, created an armed struggle or a concept or product that was useful to the country;
- The struggle continued his or her entire life and delivered a performance that surpassed all obligations;
- Had a profound impact through his or her actions;
- Has a high degree of patriotism;
- Was of respectable character and good morals;
- Never surrendered to his or her enemies; NL
- Never committed an act that stained his or her legacy.
