The first Royal Albanian decoration, instituted in 1914, was a bronze medal measuring 28.3 mm in width and 39 mm in height. Designed by the renowned Austrian sculptor, designer, and painter Gustav Gurschner, it was awarded to participants and organizers of the event that marked Prince Wilhelm von Wied’s accession to the Albanian throne on March 7, 1914.
The ribbon is red with two black stripes. The front of the medal shows the profile of Wilhelm von Wied. The back shows his princely monogram with the date in Roman numerals between the crown and the W: "VII III" (7 March) and under the W the year "1914".
