"On 5 JAN 45 Sgt SHORT was on patrol at ROOSTEREN within 600 yds of the enemy. At 0020 hrs the enemy put down a very heavy artillery and mortar barrage. One armoured car received a direct hit and Sgt Short regardless of the shelling assisted a wounded man from the car and extinguished the fire. He than saw that the enemy infantry were infiltrating round him and immediately engaged them with his second armoured car, succeeding in repulsing the attack.
On the night of 6 JAN 45 Sgt SHORT was in command of a mine laying party of 60 yds from the enemy posititions. The enemy suddenly opened fire on him but Sgt Short organized his own covering party to return the fire and carried on laying the mines until the task was completed, although he was under constant enemy fire.
Throughout both these actions Sgt Short showed great gallantry without any care for his own personal safety."
