    Second World War (1939-1945)
    Rank:
    Bombardier
    Awarded on:
    December 22nd, 1945
"During the Canadian offensive after the crossing of the IJSSEL River 11 April 1945, this NCO was a gun sergeant in “I” Troop, 57 Battery, 1 Anti-tank Regiment RCA.
The fighting at that time was very slow with as many as three deployments in a single night. This NCO on one deployment carried out the personal supervision of two guns which were firing at enemy emplacements and houses at MR 462054, Holland, Sheet 2, 1/100,000, containing machine-gunners and snipers which had already killed two men of a six-man patrol of “D” Company West Nova Scotia Regiment. Under this direction the firing of these guns was destroyed before the enemy could retaliate.
By this outstanding performance, the four remaining men of the infantry patrol were able to withdraw to the cover of their own company positions with information which not only saved the lives of many of their comrades, but materially assisted in the success of the operation."
