Biography

Arthur was born on June 12 1912 in Simcoe Ontario, the son of William Livingstone Innes and Willemene Innes nee Rennie of Simcoe.
He was married on June 8 1942 in Simcoe with Jean Verna Donaldson Innes nee Summers of Toronto. Jean remarried later as Mrs. Donaldson. His brothers were William C. (also in the army) and Douglas L. Innes and John B. Innes was deceased in 1931. His sisters were Francis M. Gallagher and Ethel N. Innes and Charlotte L. Barnes was deceased in 1943.

He was a machinist and member of the Presbyterian Church. His hobbies were shooting, track & field, boxing and horse back riding and his sports were hockey, baseball, basketball and swimming.

He served as a Pte Signaller from 1928-1934 with the Norfolk Regiment of Canada in Simcoe. He enlisted on May 23 1942 then the RCAF in Kitchener Ontario and he went thereafter on May 24 1943 overseas to the UK.

Arthur was killed in action on Wednesday December 29 1943 age 31 due to a crash at the Vriezenveenseweg near Geesteren before or after an attack on Berlin in Germany.

The other fallen RCAF crew members were F/O Charles W. Peasland age 22 in grave 5 and Sgt Richard J.H. Walsh age 23 in grave 3.
The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were Sgt Barbie S. Ranson age 19 in grave 6 and F/Sgt Edward N. Parker age 21 in grave 4.
The other RCAF crew member F/O R.O Marrion survived the crash and he became then a prisoner of war and survived the war and the other RCAF crew member P/O. A.L. Merkley also survived the crash and he could evade but he was arrested on April 15 1944 in Belgium and he also became a prisoner of war.

He served with the 429 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
