Biography

Joseph was born on December 11 1913 in Tingwick Quebec, the son of John Edward Johnson and Annie Louise Johnson nee Walsh of Montreal. They were married on September 19 1905 in Tingwick.
His brothers were William Edward (executor of his last will), Charles Lawrence, James Albert and George Leonard Johnson and his sisters were Mary Cecilia Johnson Legett and Lillian Mary Johnson.
He was a clerk and member of the Roman Catholic Church and his sports were skiing and golf.

He served from September till October 1941 1,5 year with the Canadian Officers Training Corps (COTC) on the Loyola College in Montreal. He enlisted on April 28 1942 then the RCAF in Montreal. He went on June 4 1943 thereafter overseas to the UK.

Joseph was killed in action on Friday July 21 1944 age 30 due to a crash at the Weustboerweg Reutum near Tubbergen before or after an attack on Bottrop in Germany.

The other fallen RCAF crew members were P/O Alfred J. Britts age 28 in grave 7, F/Sgt Vernon F. Dodds age 23 in grave 7 and F/Lt James D. Virtue age 28 in grave 10.
The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were F/O Anthony G. McCarthy in grave 9 and Sgt Thomas Davenport age 21 in grave 8.
The other RCAF crew member F/Sgt Michael S. Stoyko age 28 survived the crash and he could evade then and he survived the war.

He served with the 405 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
