Biography

George was born on December 5 1914 in Sudbury Ontario, the son of George Sydney Massicotte and Catherine Massicotte nee Flaven of Sudbury. They were married on July 2 1912 in Massey Ontario.

His brothers were Sylvester (also in the army overseas), Cecil H. and Wilfred Massicotte and his sisters were Mrs. Harold Marshall, Mrs. Raymond Muleakey, Mrs. Hugh McCormick, Mrs. Philip Cryer and Evelyn Massicotte.

He was a commercial traveller and member of the Roman Catholic Church.
His hobby was playing the clarinet and his sports were skiing, skating, swimming, fishing and hunting.

He enlisted on June 22 1942 in Ottawa and he went on August 3 1943 thereafter from New York USA overseas to the UK.

George was killed in action on Saturday June 17 1944 age 29 due to a crash after an explosion near Biezenmortel before or after an attack on Sterkrade near Oberhausen in Germany.

The other fallen RCAF crew members were P/O Alan G. Fairless age 27 in grave 3, Sgt Donald C. McPherson age 20 in grave 6, Sgt Joseph M. McPherson age 22 in grave 1 and Sgt Herbert G. Robinson age 24 in grave 4.
The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew member was Sgt Edmund Guinan age 32 in grave 2.
RAF crew member Sgt L. Ellis survived the crash and became then a prisoner of war.

He served with the 431 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
