Biography

Charles was born on February 22 1919 in Petersfield Manitoba, the son of George Edward Patton and Hannah Margaret Patton nee Bird of Petersfield.

He had five brothers and four sisters. One brother and one sister died earlier of typhoid fever.

He was a farmer at father’s farm and member of the Anglican Church.

His sports were hunting and target shooting and his hobby were guns.

He served as a Private from October 9 1940 till November 7 1940 with The Winnipeg Light Infantry of The Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada. He enlisted on June 30 1941 then the RCAF in Winnipeg and he went on March 23 1942 thereafter overseas to the UK.

Charles was killed in action on Saturday October 31 1942 age 23 due to a crash at De Polle near Steenwijkerwold, 6 km north of Steenwijk before or after an attack on Emden in Germany.

The other fallen RCAF crew member was W/O II Albert G. Makay, age 20 in grave O-3.
The fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were F/O William A. Tolmie age 21 in grave O-5 and Sgt John G. Cocks age 22 in grave O-6.
The fallen RNZAF crew member was Sgt John A. Fuller age 20 in grave O-4.

He served with the 150 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
